Big Cedar Wilderness Land Acquisition

Published on 3/20/2023
The Dallas Off-Road Bicycle Association (DORBA) is a 501c(3) non-profit that manages and maintains over 200 miles of trails in the North Texas area and works with land-owners to ensure public access to multi-use, natural surface trails. Based in Dallas, DORBA has been advocating and maintaining trails since 1988.

There are roughly 290 acres of land around Big Cedar Wilderness Trails that is being acquired by the City of Dallas for use as a public park, through a third-party called Trust for Public Land (TPL). DORBA supports this land acquisition and looks forward to working with TPL, City of Dallas, and the public throughout the process.

DORBA currently works with Mountain Creek Church to maintain roughly 9 miles of sanctioned trail on their property that is adjacent to the land being acquired. DORBA looks forward to working alongside TPL, City of Dallas, and the public to evaluate and maintain any unsanctioned trail systems that have been built over the years on the land surrounding the church’s property.

DORBA is working with the City of Dallas to update and renew an umbrella land-use agreement to ensure public access to multi-use, natural surface trails for the foreseeable future. This agreement would also
allow for support of trail networks around the Big Cedar Wilderness area.

There are exciting plans for this land as a public park over the next few years, and DORBA is honored to have a seat at the table to ensure a one of a kind experience for mountain bikers and other natural surface trail users in the City of Dallas.
